Child Safety

Proud to be the only trampoline to be CHOICE Recommended

CHOICE logoDid you know Springfree™ Trampoline R54 Compact Round was the only trampoline to pass major safety tests conducted by Consumer Watchdog CHOICE?

That’s right! Springfree Trampoline R54 Compact Round was the only model out the 12 models tested to pass rigid safety tests carried out by People’s Watchdog CHOICE in January this year. Springfree Trampoline was designed by Dr Keith Alexander a regular Dad that set out to create a trampoline safe enough for his own children to play on.

After more than 15 years of injury prevention research this Dad that started out in his own backyard has now brought on a passionate and dedicated team that has continued his mission to keep kids safe in the backyard. The Springfree Trampoline team has been working tirelessly since 2003 to educate Australian parents that there is a safe trampoline option on the market and CHOICE has confirmed just that.

CHOICE is the number one advocate of consumer rights in Australia and the test was conducted by an external laboratory that tested the trampolines for safety risks, ease of assembly and jumping performance. Springfree Trampoline R54 Compact Round was found to be the safest of all the trampolines reviewed and the only trampoline that CHOICE recommends. Here is why:

  • It was the only trampoline to fully pass the shock test. (Of the 11 that are not recommended, not only did they fail the shock test but they also posed potential strangulation and/or limb entrapment hazards between the enclosure net and bed and/or frame).
  • After more than 20 drops Springfree Trampoline showed no deterioration in shock attenuation performance
  • Well-made product with high quality components and manufacturing tolerances
  • Most comfortable bounce
  • The design of the enclosure net system reduced the likelihood of potential limb entrapment and elimination of potential strangulation hazard.

Embrace Your Inner Child on a Springfree Trampoline!

In this day and age it is almost expected of us to be constantly multi-tasking and on the go; filling up our schedules with more and more errands and goals that we want to achieve. It’s as if society has created this misconception that “busy” is a status symbol. The busier you are, the more important you must be, and it shows that you have aspirations and control over your life. But is this really the case?

The ever increasing mountain of work that we set for ourselves in our lives and the 38 hours of jobs that we try to squeeze into a 24 hour period is making us forget about a healthy balanced life filled with laughing, love and relaxation. Are we ever going to climb to the peak of that mountain we set for ourselves and enjoy the view from the top, or should we be stopping along the climb up and taking in the view from different angles?

When is the last time you stopped and took a moment for yourself; just to even turn off all the distractions in your life and feel relaxed and carefree? Remember when you were a kid and all the stresses and worries of adult life were not even a thought in your mind? The time is now, to feel empowered and have some “me” time!

Jump onto your Springfree Trampoline and take 10 minutes out of your day to be young and carefree again! Be a kid at heart and just have a laugh! That Springfree Trampoline in your backyard is more than just a kid’s backyard toy, it is your sanctuary from this busy world.

That mountain is still going to be there after 10 minutes and won’t have crumbled around you. Be proud to say out loud “I’ve done something for myself today!” and realise that there is more to life than being busy.

Share your pictures of being young at heart on Instragram #kidatheart #springfreetrampoline , we’d love to see your cheeky inner child!

Fat Mum Slim has also written a blog about her view of this busy world that you might want to read!

Is your child a trampolining star of the future? Join us at the PCYC Launceston GymSports FunDAY!

Kids that get enjoyment out of their backyard trampolines, should consider the idea of jumping onboard trampolining as a serious sport. Just ask Jack Penny, our Springfree Ambassador!

He was king of the family’s backyard trampoline once. Now he is a professional trampolinist and accredited coach with Gymnastics Australia. Raised in Launceston and still in Tasmania; the trampoline has taken him all around the world.

Jack said he clearly remembers his first backyard trampoline (the traditional spring-based variety, sans-safety net). “I remember attempting my first ever forward somersault on it,” he said. “I landed it but was bounced off and right toward the big glass windows of our kitchen. I don’t have to tell you how horrified Mum was!”

With some 10,000-16,000 Australian children visiting an emergency ward annually after a trampoline mishap, Jack said any family considering a trampoline purchase should select the safest option for their children. He cited a recent Choice report that recommended only one trampoline brand (out of 12 trampolines tested for safety) – Springfree™ Trampoline.

The report showed the Springfree™ Trampoline’s R54 Compact Round model offered the most comfortable bounce which, as Jack says, will help keep your potential world champion trampolinist bouncing and training for longer. Jack encouraged backyard trampoline enthusiasts to take the leap into professional training at their local gymnastics club.

To see if your children would like to give trampolining a go, the PCYC Launceston is holding their Gymsports FunDAY on Saturday 23rd February from 10-3pm. You’ll be able to meet Jack in person and talk to him about what trampolining is like as a professional sport, grab some handy hints on moves and get tips on what the safest practice is for training on your trampoline at home.

Come and see us on the day to see Jack demonstrate his exhilarating moves on a Springfree and enter the draw for your chance to WIN the S113 Large Square Springfree Trampoline that Jack is performing on!

Little Bodies Benefit from Bouncing!

Many parents buy a trampoline thinking it’s a brilliant way to get the children outdoors and expending excess energy, but trampolines provide many other unrealised developmental benefits for little bodies – as long as they are used safely.

Connect Chiropractic owner and author Dr Kathleen Lawson, a specialist in paediatric chiropractic care, said children can develop their coordination and balance on a trampoline while also increasing aerobic fitness and improving brain activity.

“The major way that a growing brain learns about what body parts are up to, where they are and how to control them is through movement,” Dr Lawson explained. “The highest number of receptors for movement are located in your joints and the soft tissues around those joints. Regular gentle exercise, like jumping on a pliable surface like a trampoline mat, is ideal for activating those receptors and ‘feeding’ the growing brain.”

“Recent research shows that learning happens first physically, then mentally or academically. This physical development lays down the groundwork and patterns for brain activity that then allows for future academic learning.”

“That’s why kids with learning difficulties are now routinely given eye exercises, balance exercises and coordination activities to help get their brains ready for the academics. The research shows that kids with good balance and coordination have an easier time learning other things.”

“Better bodies mean better brains!”

In light of the recent Choice report that showed 11 out of 12 trampoline brands failed safety testing, Dr Lawson stressed the importance of protecting your child from injury while they used the backyard trampoline.

She recommended Springfree Trampoline, the one and only brand that did pass the consumer watchdog’s rigorous tests. “Well done to Springfree Trampoline for investing in the research, engineering and quality materials that ensure our kids can play safely and develop great coordination, aerobic fitness, balance and improved brain activity,” Dr Lawson said.

“It really is a no-brainer – a Springfree Trampoline is a superb investment in your child’s health. My family is worth this quality and safety.”

Springfree Trampoline offers FREE Kids Basic Trampoline Moves during the school holidays at their Experience Centres in Sydney and Melbourne. These are great 1 hour sessions held by professional trainers, to teach your children how to safely perform basic moves on their backyard trampolines.

Help your children’s little bodies develop, by showing them the basic moves on the world’s safest trampoline.

Springfree™ Trampoline – the only trampoline to pass safety tests conducted by CHOICE

We are thrilled to announce that in a recent test carried out by the People’s Watchdog CHOICE, Springfree Trampoline R54 Compact Round was found to be the safest design and the only trampoline that Choice recommends.

Choice tested 12 trampolines to the Australian Standard (currently voluntary) for safety risks, as well as ease of assembly and jumping performance. It was found to have the most comfortable bounce out of all the 12 models tested.

Springfree Trampoline R54 Compact Round was also judged to be a well-made product with high quality components and manufacturing tolerances and Springfree Trampoline was the only trampoline to fully pass the shock test.

Of the 11 that are not recommended, not only did they fail the shock test but they also posed potential strangulation and/or limb entrapment hazards between the enclosure net and bed and/or frame.

CHOICE is the number one advocate of consumer rights in Australia and the test was conducted by an external laboratory.

Springfree™ Trampoline is the only trampoline design that has effectively removed the four areas that can cause injury:

1) the springs
2) the frame at the jumping surface
3) the risk of falls to the ground
4) the risk of falls into rigid enclosure poles

ACT Kids are jumping again!

ACT for Kids, a charity providing free therapy and support for children who have experienced child abuse and neglect, and families at risk, was devastated to discover a their Springfree™ Trampoline in their Early Education Program kindy at Wooloowin had been destroyed by vandals.

The Springfree™ Trampoline is used by occupational therapists to help kids develop gross motor skills, balance, and generally for play and learning games during kindy classes.

When we read in the Courier Mail that vandals had wrecked the Springfree™ Trampoline at the ACT for Kids Wooloowin Centre we were shocked and saddened and we knew that we wanted help straight away. We have such respect for this vital community cause and all the significant benefits that ACT for Kids Centres bring to the kids. We were more than happy to donate the time and parts to get the kids jumping again. We know how important a Springfree™ Trampoline can be as a therapy tool in meeting kids’ therapy needs.

“We were humbled the quick and generous response of the local community, and want to thank Springfree Trampoline and everyone who donated. Your help means a lot to the kids we work with, something as simple as repairing a trampoline gives them back a little bit of their childhood” CEO, Dr Neil Carrington says.

“Fundraising is challenging at the moment, people are concerned about the economy and jobs and the lead up to Christmas can be a stressful and expensive time. Unfortunately, it’s these same pressures that put families and parents under more stress and means the number of children and families who need our help increases” Dr Carrington says.

If you want to help you can donate to ACT for Kids’ Christmas appeal on 1300 228 000 or online at www.actforkids.com.au/christmas to help them continue to provide free therapy and support to treat and prevent child abuse and neglect.

Springfree™ Trampoline was over the moon to receive these handmade thank you cards from the ACT kids today!

Trampolines and Children with Special Needs

Earlier this year, Springfree Trampoline was featured on Family Caregivers Unite, an online radio show hosted by Dr. Gordon Atherley.

Steve, our Chief Bouncing Officer, and Rosemarie, a happy Springfree owner, discussed how Springfree Trampoline can benefit children with special needs. You can listen to the radio show here.

Steve spoke about how Springfree’s safety features add a huge value to the overall health benefits of trampolining. There are a number of health benefits of trampolining and he believes trampolines should exist to create a peace of mind for parents, rather than pose dangers to children. According to Steve, “[His job] as the Chief Bouncing Officer is to create a paradigm shift: to change the definition of the trampoline”.

Rosemarie is a mother of four very energetic boys. Her boys use the Springfree Trampoline every day with all of their friends and neighbours – usually, the problem is getting them off the trampoline! She says the trampoline is a great motivating tool for her boys to get their homework done. It’s also one place where her boys will take the initiative to sweep, which gets them involved in household chores.

Rosemarie’s youngest son, Giuliano, who recently turned 7, is a child with autism and is as energetic as his older brothers. He is sensory sensitive and dislikes noise, which makes the Springfree a perfect trampoline for him. Because there is no squeaky springs, Springfree trampolines are silent when you bounce. Rosemarie says Giuliano can spend hours jumping with pure joy on his face!

Funny enough, one of his favourite jumping activities is listening to “La Bamba” on the iPod. Rosemarie credits this new quirk to the fact that jumping opens him up and energizes him. It encourages Giuliano to try out activities that he would never do otherwise and helps him take positive steps forward.

Rosemarie says with the FlexiNet zipped up, she has no fear that her kids will hurt themselves. She stands back and watches them enjoy themselves in their safe haven.

Springfree Trampoline has been welcomed by autism, cystic fibrosis and Downs syndrome communities as a fun and safe way that children can exercise and receive therapy.

We’d love to hear if you’ve had any first-hand experience with trampolines for children with special needs. Tell us your story!

The Official Launch of Jump For Kids

We officially launched our JUMP FOR KIDS campaign yesterday in Sydney and what a day it was.

It started nice and early for a segment on channel 10 Breakfast. Our ambassador, Hayley Lewis was joined by Head of Trauma at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Dr Donovan Dwyer to chat about how to get involved and what the money will mean to children emergency wards across Australia.

Live on set at Breakfast (channel 10)

If you missed it, make sure you check it out HERE

We then raced over to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick where they were having their Annual Party Day for Hayley to tour the emergency ward and meet some of the patients.

They do an amazing job and we could not be happier to host this initiative and raise as much money as possible to make a real difference to those who use these services. Here are some of the happy snaps.
